    Attrition

The shortfall between the number of guests or rooms contracted and those actually used, which may incur a penalty fee.

Attrition is most common in hotel room blocks and catered events where the venue commits resources based on a guaranteed minimum number. If the final headcount falls below the contracted minimum, the client typically pays a fee for the unused capacity. Most venues allow 10–20% attrition before penalties apply. Understanding attrition clauses is essential when managing group bookings or conference hotel blocks.
